Thornton resident, Maryanne Jordaan, has given Thornton\u2019s ward councillor Riad Davids seven days to lay out his plan for the upholding of the Thornton area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Jordaan, there is a major difference between the upholding of Pinelands versus Thornton. \u201cYou compare Pinelands to Thornton, there\u2019s a big difference, I want action this year,\u201d says Jordaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Jordaan, it would be good to start an initiative called Friends of Thornton, where the canal can get regular inspections going, and upgrades with a walkway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Riad Davids, the ward councillor of Thornton, says residents do indeed assist with cleaning the canal. Unfortunately, illegal dumping occurs daily. \u201cIt\u2019s disheartening to see a clean canal turning into a dumpsite in just one night,\u201d says Davids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That after the residents put in a huge effort to clean it the day before. \u201cThe Council generally cleans the canal, however, we cannot just sit back and complain when it is not cleaned at the scheduled date or time,\u201d says June Hendricks the secretary of TRRA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Hendricks with the monthly clean-ups, the same people come out to support the initiative (between five and ten, of which four are usually TRRA committee members). \u201cWe need more residents to join our clean-up initiative. All Thornton residents must start taking pride in their area\/community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
