{"id":47538,"date":"2024-03-06T12:05:03","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T10:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/walk-held-for-little-warriors-20240305-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T23:42:44","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T21:42:44","slug":"walk-held-for-little-warriors-20240305-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/walk-held-for-little-warriors-20240305-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Cancer walk held for little warriors along the Bloubergstrand beachfront"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Table View and Milnerton Lions Clubs recently banded together to participate in the 4 km Big Walk for Little Warriors along the Bloubergstrand beachfront. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The walk, held in partnership with the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (Choc) was to raise awareness of hildren and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 100 people supported the walk organised by the Lions clubs of De Grendel, Table View and Milnerton. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Globally, childhood cancer is on the rise. It is now estimated that one in 408 children worldwide will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community Medics volunteers also participated in The Big Walk for Little Warriors. Similar walks were held nationally by Lions Clubs to raise funds for Choc, as well as build awareness about cancer in children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur volunteers participated in the walk and were also on hand with one of our response vehicles, in case of a medical emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-signs-of-childhood-cancer\">Signs of childhood cancer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Siluan\u2019s Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>S \u2013 Seek medical help early for ongoing symptoms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I \u2013 White spot in the eye, new squint, sudden blindness or bulging eyeball.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>L \u2013 Lump on the stomach, pelvis, head, arms, legs, testicle or glands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U \u2013 Unexplained fever present for over two weeks, weight loss, fatigue, pale appearance, easy bruising and bleeding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A \u2013 Aching bones, easy fractures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>N \u2013 Neurological signs, a change in walk, balance or speech, regression, continuous headaches with\/without vomiting and enlarged head. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, visit www.<a
