Meet Dylan Calvert, a talented 10-year-old athlete from Curro\u2019s Meridian Pinehurst in Cape Town, who has stormed onto the track scene, securing his place in the South African Primary Schools Championships from Sunday 24 to Tuesday 26 March in Limpopo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dylan\u2019s remarkable performance at the Western Cape Primary Schools Championships has garnered national recognition and admiration after he clinched gold in both the boys u-10 80 m and 100 m sprint events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His journey to the top has been nothing short of spectacular \u2013 breaking records and leaving competitors in his dust. Dylan shattered the provincial record in the boys u-10 80 m sprint final, clocking an astonishing 10,73 seconds and his exceptional speed and determination have propelled him to stand as the fastest athlete in his division across the Western Cape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDylan has a bright future ahead of him and this marks the beginning of a successful journey,\u201d remarks Ian Permall, sports coordinator at Curro Meridian Pinehurst. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWho knows, he may even become the next world record holder. We are privileged to have such great talent at our school and fully support him as he gears up for the national championships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reflecting on his journey, Dylan shares: \u201cI\u2019m thankful for the opportunities that have come my way and am excited for the championships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am training long and hard and I aim to perform my best on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Inspired by his hometown hero, Wayde van Niekerk, Dylan channels his admiration into his own pursuit of excellence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe always motivates me to do better, whether it is during training sessions or competitions. My ambition is to continuously seek to do my best, break records and chase preferably gold medals,\u201d says Dylan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Dylan prepared to take on the nation\u2019s best, his family beamed with pride. Ryan Calvert, Dylan\u2019s father, expresses: \u201cThis fills our hearts with happiness and admiration. Seeing him excel brings us immense delight and a sense of fulfilment as parents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
