At the most recent Subcouncil 4 meeting, held on Thursday 18 April, key updates were shared regarding the Goodwood Social Housing Development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The development is being undertaken by DCI Community Housing Services, an accredited Social Housing Institution (SHI) recognised by the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the meeting reports, DCI revealed that as of Thursday 4 April, 138 tenants had moved into the development. Of these tenants, 65% were residents from Subcouncil 4 areas, which include neighbourhoods such as Kensington, Bellville, Goodwood and Vasco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Goodwood Social Housing Development is located near the Goodwood Train Station. Once completed in 2024, it is expected to provide 1 055 social housing rental units. The project is being completed in two phases. Phase 1, which concluded in late 2023, delivered 331 units, while Phase 2 is anticipated to provide an additional 724 units by mid-2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DCI also provided an update on the construction progress as of Wednesday 6 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The construction began in October 2022, with Phase 1 completed in late 2023. Phase 2 is on track for completion by mid-2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DCI reported that on Friday 22 March, any water spillages in the subway opposite the Goodwood Social Housing Development were cleared. Additionally, the sides of the ramp were cleared of loose stones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Social housing is a rental housing option for households earning between R1 850 and R22 000 per month. It is managed by an accredited Social Housing Institution and is designed to promote spatial, economic, and social integration within communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DCI also noted on 28 March that applicants must register on the City of Cape Town\u2019s housing database to qualify for housing opportunities. The City\u2019s human settlements department has provided DCI with website details and forms to assist applicants in registering on the housing database.
