The Table View police have again urged the public to be extra vigilant when driving on Malibongwe Drive and Potsdam Road.Arrests have been made, linking suspects to smash-and-grabs (robberies) in the Potsdam and Malibongwe and neighbouring areas recently, Capt Adriana Chandler, Table View police spokesperson, confirmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
TygerBurger previously reported Malibongwe Drive and Potsdam Road have been identified as the most notorious spots for smash-and-grabs in the Table View area after an increase was noted during the past months.Motorists say they are left grappling with the alarming escalation of crime along this road and some say they are making use of alternative routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chander says whilst static at a robbery hot spot area in Malibongwe Drive an arrest was made when officers observed one motorist acting suspiciously when he saw the police vehicle.\u201cHe threw something from the front seat to the back seat, appearing nervous. The officers decided to investigate further and upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a container with a large quantity of crystal meth (tik), estimated to be worth half a million rand, weighing 1,2\u2009kg,\u201d Chandler says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Station Commander, Col Tjikamba Mbangu, is however asking the community to still be vigilant when approaching any intersection. \u201cIt is advised that all valuable items, including cellphones, be locked in the boot of the vehicle before departing to your destination. Make sure that your windows are closed, and doors are locked,\u201d he says. Chandler also emphasised the importance of being vigilant when visiting shopping centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTheft out of motor vehicles at shopping centres is still reported, where the use of jamming devices could not be ruled out, due to no forced entry being noticeable. The following tips are useful: make sure that all the doors of your vehicle are locked by checking each door before you walk away. Do not leave laptops hidden underneath the front seats. Do not leave items of value in your vehicle,\u201d she says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
