{"id":45284,"date":"2024-07-17T07:01:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-17T05:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/grim-discovery-decomposing-body-found-in-woodlands-drain-by-municipal-workers-20240717\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T02:57:22","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T00:57:22","slug":"grim-discovery-decomposing-body-found-in-woodlands-drain-by-municipal-workers-20240717","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/grim-discovery-decomposing-body-found-in-woodlands-drain-by-municipal-workers-20240717\/","title":{"rendered":"Grim discovery: Decomposing body found in Woodlands drain by municipal workers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Police have opened an inquest docket after municipal workers discovered a decomposing body in a Woodlands drain on 11 July. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The body was found while unblocking a drain at the corner of Mitchells Avenue and Herby Road, leading to an ongoing investigation by the Lentegeur police.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The City of Cape Town confirmed the workers involved have been offered counselling, and Ward 75 councillor Joan Woodman noted the body was found in a sewer drain.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Police have opened an inquest docket following the grim discovery of a body in a Woodlands drain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday 11 July, municipal workers were attending to a service request for blocked drains on the corners of Mitchells Avenue and Herby Road at 12:36, when they uncovered the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lentegeur police spokesperson, Const Navon van Houten, confirmed to <em>TygerBurger<\/em> that investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe City of Cape Town was clearing up a blocked drain which the community complained about. They later discovered that a body was blocking the drain. Further information still needs to be detected,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-body-discovered\">Body discovered<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a response to <em>TygerBurger<\/em>\u2019s enquiries, the City of Cape Town says the staff attached to the City\u2019s Water and Sanitation maintenance team responded to the request of unblocking a drain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile the team was busy attempting to unblock the line, they discovered a body in it. They immediately contacted police who took over the scene to retrieve the body. The team was offered counselling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ward 75 councillor Joan Woodman who was on the scene says the body was discovered in the sewer drain and not a stormwater drain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says the decomposing body was that of a man. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer, detective
