In observance of the 10th Muharram, a day marked by reflection and compassion, Bright Start Preschool and Educare took a meaningful step to support those in need within the Goodwood community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognising the importance of the 10th Muharram, also known as Ashura, the school extended a helping hand to reinforce the values of empathy and solidarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAshura holds significant cultural, historical, and religious importance across various communities. While it is primarily observed by Muslims, it is also respected by other faiths and cultures as a day of reflection, penance, and solidarity. It serves as a reminder of human values such as compassion, empathy, and the fight against tyranny and oppression,\u201d says Aqeelah Abu Alrub, the principal of Bright Start Preschool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the support of dedicated teachers and the parents of their learners, the preschool collected and distributed fresh bread to those in need. This initiative aimed to foster a sense of unity and empathy among all community members, regardless of their backgrounds or beliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homeless people overlooked<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The principal of Bright Start Preschool and Educare emphasised the motivation behind this effort: \u201cWe felt it was a need within our community as the homeless people are sometimes overlooked and many of them can\u2019t help the situation they are in. With the past wet and cold days we experienced, we didn\u2019t know if they at least had something to eat, as most of them could not leave their tents to go search for food.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bread distribution took place at Goodwood Mall, where car guards and even some mall workers came out to collect bread. The harsh weather conditions had made it difficult for them to work, and many had likely gone without income for several days. \u201cWe witness it daily that there is a need for food, clothing, and shelter within our community as we live and work within the Goodwood area,\u201d Aqeelah noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small act of kindness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Through this small act of kindness, Bright Start Preschool and Educare hopes to inspire others to find ways to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of their communities, not just on significant days like the 10th Muharram, but throughout the year. \u201cTogether, we can create a more compassionate and supportive society for our children,\u201d Aqeelah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
