Stargazers, young and old, recently came out to observe the
\nnight sky as part of an annual global event, International Observe the Moon
\nNight, one that encourages people to do, well, just that and appreciate the
\nmoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event is supported by America\u2019s space agency Nasa\u2019s
\nLunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission, the Solar System Exploration Division of
\nthe agency\u2019s Goddard Space Flight Center and other affiliated astronomical
\norganisations. It promotes the observation, appreciation and understanding of
\nthe moon for one day each year, explained Marius Reitz, an amateur astronomer
\nfrom Edgemead, who organised the local event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A partner at the Leeuwenboschfontein Astronomical
\nObservatory and former chair of the Cape Centre of the Astronomical Society of
\nSouthern Africa, he has hosted the event in Edgemead for seven years now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s one was held on Saturday 14 September at the
