{"id":43443,"date":"2024-10-23T08:00:27","date_gmt":"2024-10-23T06:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/city-addresses-silversands-illegal-dumping-problem-20241023\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T05:00:49","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T03:00:49","slug":"city-addresses-silversands-illegal-dumping-problem-20241023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/city-addresses-silversands-illegal-dumping-problem-20241023\/","title":{"rendered":"City addresses Silversands illegal dumping problem"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A Silversands resident is asked by the City of Cape Town to monitor illegal dumping behind his home. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The dumping poses health risks, attracting pests and creating unpleasant conditions. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The City is working to clean the area and prevent future incidents.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Cape Town has asked a resident from Silversands to monitor the back of his house where illegal dumping takes place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span><em>TygerBurger<\/em><\/span> sent a media request to the City on 27 September after receiving complaints from residents in Hockenheim Street of illegal dumping taking place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complainants said that people are dumping rubbish next to their boundary walls causing a stink and attracting rats and mice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isaac Stevens, one of the complainants, says he wants the City to do something urgently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI cannot believe that normal human beings can just dump their rubbish wherever they want. It is disgusting and a health risk,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-delay\">Delay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Spokesperson for the City, Letitia Fisher, says the delay in response was due to not being able to reach the complainant. \u201cI have been experiencing some difficulties contacting the complainant and retrieving the full contact details of the owner of the property, also who the inspector is who attended to this complaint. I managed to retrieve the contact number of the complainant, Isaac Stevens, and he confirmed that the dumping takes place on an open plot next to the school and people have free access to it. Also, that there was no other first investigator for this complaint. An officer visited the location and took pictures,\u201d says Fisher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A request has been made to the solid waste department to clean the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlso contact our control room on 021 480 7700 so an officer may be assigned to attend to the complaint, obtain a statement from you and deal with the offenders,\u201d says Fisher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When
