grown into a vital organisation supporting a range of physiotherapy services across the nation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) marked its 100th anniversary in style on Saturday 12 October, celebrating a century of dedicated service to the health and wellness of South Africans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Held at the Goodwood Sports Club, this milestone was more than a commemoration; it was a tribute to the hard work, resilience, and unity of physiotherapists nationwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was attended by Rene Naylor, the Springbok rugby team physiotherapist, whose motivational talk on physiotherapy\u2019s role in elite sports and the growing presence of women in these roles inspired everyone in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1924, SASP\u2019s journey began as the Certified Masseurs Association in Cape Town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back then, a small group of masseurs came together to fight for the inclusion of their work in the medical, dental, and pharmacy act of 1928. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was a pivotal step that ultimately led to the formation of SASP as a national entity, and in the years that followed, the organisation became the South African Society of Massage and Medical Gymnastics, which then evolved into the SASP we know today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-high-quality-physiotherapy-services\">High-quality physiotherapy services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, SASP stands proudly as a non-profit organisation dedicated to inclusivity, equal opportunities, and the provision of high-quality physiotherapy services to all South Africans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe strive to meet the needs of our members while ensuring no discrimination on any grounds in the practice of physiotherapy,\u201d explained Franci du Plessis, the SASP chair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SASP actively supports various special interest groups, including orthopedics, pediatric care, animal physiotherapy, and women\u2019s health, to meet the diverse needs of the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Du Plessis shared a moving sentiment about the organisation\u2019s progress, saying \u201cit\u2019s truly a privilege to celebrate this 100-year journey, knowing the countless physiotherapists who paved the road we walk today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Many have tirelessly worked to secure our profession\u2019s place in healthcare, and this milestone is a testament to their passion and commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-goodwood-sports-club\">Goodwood sports club<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With provincial branches in each province of South Africa, SASP ensured that members nationwide could join the centenary festivities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to generous support from Spar South Gauteng, each branch had the opportunity to host local celebrations.
