Mom Kim Classen says Willow began writing short stories at age 10. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt the time, we were home schooling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI wanted to instill a love for reading in her, so we visited the library frequently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe developed an interest in reading about animals, insects, and similar topics as she wanted to be a veterinarian since she was five years old because of her love for animals but then it turned into her wanting to be an author of children\u2019s books! To encourage her creativity, I suggested she start by brainstorming ideas for book topics and jotting down whatever came to mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kim says Willow found writing by hand tedious but had typing lessons and prefers typing her stories. \u201cIt took her about three to four weeks to complete her first book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To have her first book released is \u201cvery exciting\u201d, admits the young author. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As an avid reader, Willow became inspired to write her own book. \u201cI took some inspiration from other authors and maybe also from movies,\u201d she says about penning the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is quick to answer who her favourite author is: \u201cRick Riordan, the author of the series Percy Jackson<\/em>, and the writer of Daughter of the Deep<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nWillow, in Grade 6, is in a private school \u2013 since last year, following three years of home schooling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her introduction (\u201cAbout the author\u201d) on Amazon Books, she says home schooling allowed her freedom to explore her imagination and to develop her writing skills. Now she is happy to be among her peers. \u201cI enjoy the public interaction. I love being around people,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her \u201cabout intro\u201d also states she is \u201cpassionate about animals, nature, gaming, and swimming.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also enjoys singing and soccer, Willow adds. \u201cWe started (with soccer) this week\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She will continue writing \u2013 both scheduled and when the inspiration grabs hold. \u201cI am writing a sequel and also another book on a different topic.\u201d For now, it\u2019s a secret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To other children who might consider writing a book, Willow says: \u201cYou should be passionate. Do you really want to write? There\u2019s no excuse like writer\u2019s block \u2026 Let your imagination flow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
