Young Abi Sochop (13) just recently released his debut Afrikaans single, \u201cMy God, My Rots\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abi launched his debut on a local radio station, Radio Eersterivier, in a show hosted by Henry Prins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prins describes Abi as follows: \u201cHe left everyone in awe. His exceptional vocal ability, combined with his deep passion for music, showcased a level of talent beyond his years. The young boy\u2019s performance not only impressed viewers but also resonated with many, as his voice filled the room with emotion and sincerity,\u201d says Prins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to mother Masnoena the road to where he is now was not easy. \u201cAbi was eight years old when the bullying started. By Grade 4 and 5, the bullying got so bad, the bully would smack him using a knuckle on his head. He needed to have a R5 for the bully every day and hand over his bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe bully even pressed eraser pieces into his ear. We always said \u2018this child never listens\u2019, not knowing our son had eraser pieces deep in the ear. Until the nurse came around the school and did some checkups on the children, we realised what was going on. There were more than three pieces in both ears,\u201d says Masnoena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Masnoena Abi never spoke ill of his bullies. \u201cAbi would always say mom, put more bread in, there are children that are very hungry. He would never say they are bullying him, he would always speak kind about the challenges he faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe as his parents decided enough is enough and that will break our child and then removed him immediately from the school and he got accepted at a different school that does not tolerate bullying. For the first few months after arriving at the new school two boys bullied him again. One even threatened to murder him. After getting sick, Abi was told that he was about to die and he read Psalm 62, which inspired him to write his single,\u201d says his mother. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
