Soneike High School\u2019s top matriculant of 2024, Wade Hamit, from Highbury, was named one of the top 40 candidates in the province at the Western Cape Education Department\u2019s Matric Awards last Thursday at Leeuwenhof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awards were made according to the marks obtained in each candidate\u2019s best six subjects that fulfil the requirements of a National Senior Certificate (two languages, mathematics, and three other subjects excluding life orientation). The historical context of schools was also taken into consideration. Those awarded each received a certificate, and R15\u2009000. Wade passed with an average of 91% and had distinctions for all seven his subjects. His best result was 94% for physical science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn Grade 10 physics was my worst subject, but once I figured out a way to study physics things started turning around,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen I started to understand it, I began to enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He credited \u201cYouTube<\/em> (videos) and learning how to study the subject on my own\u201d for the shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wade is currently enrolled to study electrical and electronic engineering at Stellenbosch University and hopes he can start working overseas after his studies, \u201clike the USA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But getting a job overseas is not his only goal. Once he has earned enough he wants to be his own boss. \u201cMy main goal is to open my own business eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The young achiever\u2019s advice for current matrics is to keep their eyes on the goal.
