{"id":41874,"date":"2025-02-12T16:04:43","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T14:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/lentegeur-community-policing-forum-gears-up-for-action-20250212\/"},"modified":"2025-03-27T13:09:01","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T11:09:01","slug":"lentegeur-community-policing-forum-gears-up-for-action-20250212","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/lentegeur-community-policing-forum-gears-up-for-action-20250212\/","title":{"rendered":"Lentegeur Community Policing Forum gears up for action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Lentegeur Community Policing Forum (CPF) has hit the ground running since their November election and are ready to tackle key issues for the next five years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Michael Jacobs returning to office as chair after a decade hiaitus, he says his nomination came as a surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was not party to any caucuses, which is an acceptable democratic process, but accepted the challenge as I thought I still have something to give my community. I firmly believe that safety is everyone\u2019s responsibility and as such, we as a CPF want to be inclusive as far as possible to be able to bring stability and peace to our community,\u201d says Jacobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe further want to forge positive relationships with station management in order to ensure that our community get\u2019s the desired quality policing services which they are entitled to. We also want to work with elected councillors, educators, faith communities and other NGO\u2019s to ensure that services are delivered to our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacobs says the ongoing gang violence and sporadic shooting is a major concern. Domestic and gender-based violence, street robberies and house robberies are still unacceptably high, he adds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe call on our communities, not only to join our safety structures but to inform the police and law enforcement agencies within the City timeously so as to get a quicker response,\u201d he says. \u201cOur plea to the community is let us take hands and work together to create a safer Lentegeur precinct.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-executive\">Executive<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Michael Jacobs, chair;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cassiem Gamiet, deputy chair;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Byron de Villiers, project coordinator;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jasmine Holtman, secretary;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kaamillah Ismail, assistant secretary;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anne Africa, treasurer;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charles Julies, PRO; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fatiema Cloete, additional member;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glenville Jacobs, additional member.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur immediate priorities are to reconnect with our communities and build vibrant sub forums which will be elected in due course. We will also table a safety plan for the Lentegeur precinct as we have embarked on a consultative process to get our community and organisations\u2019 input. We want to expand the neighbourhood watches and will go on a recruitment drive as well as improving our victim support capacity and services.
