Four suspects were arrested and appeared in court recently after a large amount of cannabis was found in their possession. The group was arrested during a drug-related raid in Goodwood, says Sally Venter, a member of the Goodwood Estate Neighbourhood Watch<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, the Goodwood police responded without delay and arrested all four suspects. “They were found in possession of a significant quantity of drugs. They will appear in court facing serious charges,” Venter said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, local neighbourhood watch structures responded to multiple housebreaking incidents, resulting in arrests, recovered property and the disruption of criminal activity across the area, said Venter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“On Tuesday 7 April, a housebreaking triggered an immediate, full-scale response from all four neighbourhood watch sectors. Members mobilised within minutes, securing key camera footage and locking down affected areas. Within a short space of time, two more incidents were reported, including a suspect actively entering a property. Once again, neighbourhood watch members responded decisively, preventing further escalation and assisting on the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“By Thursday 9 April, the message was already clear: residents are alert, and criminals are being watched. Acting on a vigilant tip-off, neighbourhood watch members again responded swiftly to another housebreaking, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of stolen items. Later that same day, yet another incident was reported. Once again, coordinated action between all four sectors led to a second arrest, reinforcing a zero-tolerance approach to crime in Goodwood. One of the suspects was directly linked to multiple burglaries in our area,” said Venter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No place to hide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

She said criminals attempting to flee across boundaries found no refuge in Goodwood. “In a joint-operation with Elsies River safety structures, Goodwood patrollers identified a suspect wanted by Elsies River police. Through coordinated efforts between Elsies River CPF, neighbourhood watch members, Goodwood Armed Patrols (GAP) and the Goodwood police, the suspect was apprehended, despite resistance. This sends a clear message, that there are no safe havens.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Venter said the pressure on criminals continued into the weekend when the four suspects were arrested in connection with the large amount of cannabis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partnership yields success<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

She said these successes are not by chance. “They are the direct result of residents who refuse to stay silent, patrollers who remain committed, and strong partnerships between neighbourhood watch structures, CPF and police. If you are committing crime in Goodwood, you will be identified, reported, and dealt with. At the same time, this serves as a call to action to every resident: your vigilance matters. Every report, every call, every piece of information contributes to making our community safer.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents who want to be part of the solution are urged to join their local neighbourhood watch. The local neighbourhood watch structures include Townsend Estate (Sector 1), Goodwood Estate (Sector 2), Vasco Estate (Sector 3) and Richmond Estate (Sector 4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
