The Mark Jeneker Foundation recently organised an educational trip to the Norval Foundation Art Museum in Tokai <\/a>for children from Mitchells Plain, as part of its ongoing community art programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The excursion, which took place on 7 April, brought pupils from 16 local schools together for what Jeneker described as an enriching cultural experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wide school participation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Students that attended were from the foundation art classes at various schools and venues in Mitchells Plain, including YMCA Saturday classes, Portland Primary, Hazeldene Primary, Lantana Primary, Spineview Primary, Oval North High, Agape, Mitchells Plain Primary, West End Primary, Tafelsig Primary, Huguenot Primary, Glendale High, Merrydale Primary, Summerdale High, Mandalay Primary, Princeton High and Mondale High schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeneker said the foundation had been particularly active during the school holidays, running art holiday programmes at various locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the initiative, he said the foundation’s work is driven by the belief that “art changes lives” and aims to provide positive influences for young people facing challenges in their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expansion plans and recruitment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The organisation planned to extend its visual-arts programme to all schools in the area in the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeneker currently runs Saturday art classes and has space available for new participants. These fee-based classes help fund the foundation’s free art therapy classes at participating school.
