Two separate crime prevention operations in Cape Town have led to multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal firearms, as police intensify efforts to curb violent crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first incident, members of Operation Prosper were conducting patrols in Clarke Estate, Elsies River, on Thursday evening (2 April) when they heard gunshots nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chase leads to firearm arrest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Officers responded immediately, driving towards the source of the gunfire where they spotted two men running, one reportedly carrying a firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A foot chase ensued, resulting in both suspects being apprehended. Police recovered a 9mm pistol with no serial number, along with 15 rounds of ammunition, at the location where the suspects had attempted to hide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two adult suspects have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates\u2019 Court on charges related to the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second operation nets revolver in Goodwood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a separate incident on Friday evening (3 April), members attached to Operation Lockdown III carried out crime prevention operations in the Bishop Lavis policing precinct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting on information received, officers searched a property in Holland Street, Goodwood, where they discovered a .357 revolver with six rounds of ammunition in a bedroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 23-year-old suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm licence and was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police reinforce crackdown<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The suspect is expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrates\u2019 Court on Tuesday 7 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg said the arrests highlight ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms from communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
