Cape Town’s most colourful weekend is almost here. On Saturday 21 March, Green Point will transform into a kaleidoscope of creativity as the Cape Town Carnival returns for its 17th year with the inspiring theme “Follow Your Heart.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The annual celebration of Cape Town’s diverse cultural heritage will see approximately 1 500 performers from across the Western Cape come together for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of music, dance, and artistic expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s new this year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year’s carnival will be led by 12 creative champions who will share their personal stories of following their passions while showcasing how Cape Town has shaped their artistic journeys. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will also pay special tribute to Khayelitsha’s beloved hip hop artist Bravo le Roux, who passed away in January. Le Roux’s legacy will be honoured through a dedicated float celebrating his contribution to the local creative scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the carnival’s most anticipated traditions returns as the City’s Fire and Rescue Services and Law Enforcement officers compete in the pre-parade activities, bringing their own creative flair and friendly rivalry to the festivities.

“The City is always proud to support and be part of the Cape Town Carnival,” said Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith. “It attracts around 36 000 people and contributes millions of rand to our economy annually. We encourage residents and visitors to line Somerset Road and experience this spectacular extravaganza.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15:00: Entertainment village opens near the parade starting point<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18:00: Pre-parade activities begin<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19:00: Main street parade kicks off<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until midnight: Entertainment village continues with food trucks and performances<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After-party: Featuring DJ Ready D, YoungstaCPT, and DJ Summer Heynes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main parade will wind its way from the intersection of York Road and Green Point Main Road, concluding at Chiappini Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
