Monte Vista residents and members of the local Tygerberg Hills Lions Club came out to support a Big Walk this past weekend in aid of charity. The walk was to raise awareness around, and funds for childhood cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group walked from the Monte Vista Presbyterian Church to the nearby located Camoens Park, says Jeannie van Wulven, a resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Together, we walked with heart and purpose raising vital awareness and funds for childhood cancer,” she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entry fee was on donation basis and the participants were very generous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We had seniors, dogs and young ones circling the park. Young cancer survivors also joined in. The funds raised will go to various childhood cancer related needs,” Van Wulven says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second year the Tygerberg Hills Lions Club hosted the event and hope to do so yearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lions throughout South Africa held walks on Saturday 14 February in support of Childhood Cancer Day (15 February).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khazimla “Queen of Hearts” Mgogo, member of the Brackenfell Leo Club, a youth group of the Tygerberg Hills Lions, handed out sweets in the shape of a heart to walkers to celebrate Valintine’s Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The walk was organised by Tygerberg Hills Lions in collaboration with Arms of Mercy, a non-profit company (NPC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
