{"id":304799,"date":"2026-02-03T16:19:01","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T14:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/?p=304799"},"modified":"2026-02-03T16:19:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T14:19:08","slug":"roadworks-are-underway-on-giel-basson-drive-in-monte-vista-kaapzicht","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/roadworks-are-underway-on-giel-basson-drive-in-monte-vista-kaapzicht\/","title":{"rendered":"Roadworks are underway on Giel Basson Drive in Monte Vista, Kaapzicht"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Road users and businesses have been advised of roadworks currently underway on Giel Basson Drive (M12).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The section between the N1 bridge and Rothschild Boulevard in the Monte Vista and Kaapzicht areas are being resurfaced, the City of Cape Town\u2019s Urban Mobility Directorate said this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work started on Monday 2 February and will take place between 19:00 and 05:30 to avoid peak traffic times. If all goes according to plan, the project should be complete by Wednesday 19 February, the directorate says. One lane, however, will remain open to traffic during these hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Road resurfacing is also being done on Rothschild Boulevard between Giel Basson Drive and the Monte Vista Boulevard Circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cResidents and business owners in Monte Vista can expect some noise while work is under way over the next few weeks. Our teams will do their best to complete the road resurfacing as efficiently as possible. Residents can look forward to the newly resurfaced Giel Basson Drive and Rothschild Boulevard very soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe City\u2019s road infrastructure management teams are working hard to get to as much of this important road maintenance work while the weather conditions remain favourable for these roadworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe ask that the public remain patient while these projects are under way as we have a limited period of time during the year where we can push to complete as much of this work as possible,&#8221; said Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City says due to the expected congestion in the area, it is recommended that road users consider making use of alternate routes between 19:00 and
