Geordin Hill-Lewis was accused by the Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Forum (BLCPF) of not standing with the families of victims of crime. “The BLCPF further notes that not once did the Premier or the City of Cape Town’s Mayor come out to stand with any family or community who had lost a family member through gang violence,” said forum chair Graham Lindhorst. “We further note that the Premier and Mayor have not once condemned loudly enough the senseless killings in our communities. We note that if any interventions are forthcoming it is to score political points, as if the life and safety of our Cape Flats communities are a political game.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
TygerBurger<\/em> approached the Mayor’s spokesperson, Lyndon Khan, for comment. “The section regarding the Mayor and the City is completely incorrect,” he wrote. “Please see the extensive safety actions taken by the City to combat gang, gun, and drug crime.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n Khan attached links to articles on the City’s website showing the success of its crime-busting initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
