A local Bothasig resident and her father recently visited a public park in the suburb with plastic bags in hand with one objective in mind – a clean-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, and her father visited De Grendel Park on Saturday 10 January to clean up a refuse-strewn section of the park where they managed to fill several bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My father and I decided to clean the park because it lies directly behind our house. The constant garbage spills into our backyard and homeless people sleeping near our walls, where they dump their waste, make the situation unbearable for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The clean-up involved two hours of clearing that section of the park and an additional hour to clear garbage from our backyard,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family has lived in the area for about 17 years now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bothasig Community Policing Forum (CPF) chair Mario Borchards told TygerBurger<\/em> newspaper the family had contacted the forum before the clean-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I assisted them in driving around 20 bags of rubbish away,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Borchards said the vagrants had made a big mess in the area. “We are planning monthly clean-ups of the Vryburger Park,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CPF thanked the resident and her father for their efforts in cleaning up the park in an appreciative post shared on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Efforts such as these are vital for community safety. Clean, well-maintained parks improve visibility, reduce hiding spots and discourage vagrancy and other anti-social activities. By keeping the area tidy we help create a safer, more welcoming space for families, children and all residents to enjoy. Your contribution makes a meaningful difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “It was evident when we had our beginner’s running-group training how much cleaner the park was,” Borchards
