CAPE TOWN \u2013<\/strong> Cape Town’s law enforcement agencies have achieved remarkable results during December operations, confiscating more than 4 634 litres of alcohol \u2013 with seizures more than doubling in just the final week of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dramatic increase in confiscations demonstrates the intensified enforcement efforts during the festive season, as multiple City agencies work together to maintain law and order across the metropolitan area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 1 and 21 December the City’s liquor pound received 1 942 litres of alcohol representing 4 201 units or bottles. However, by 28 December, this figure had skyrocketed to 4 634 litres consisting of 9 838 units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pound, managed by Law Enforcement, receives alcohol confiscated by all City enforcement agencies operating under the City’s by-laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the past week alone, Law Enforcement Officers made 155 arrests and issued 5 999 fines across various operations throughout the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LEAP officers proved particularly effective during their deployments, recovering at least four firearms while conducting their community safety operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Metro Police officers contributed significantly to the enforcement drive, making 52 arrests and issuing 3 166 notices for traffic and by-law violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers also seized a pistol, a revolver, and an imitation firearm while impounding various quantities of alcohol and drugs during their patrols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stolen vehicle recovered in Macassar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n


In one of the latest enforcement successes on Monday morning, 29 December, officers recovered a stolen vehicle in Macassar following a tip-off from the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation resulted in the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in crime prevention efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traffic Officers recorded an impressive 43 355 offences during their road safety operations, demonstrating the scope of violations occurring across the city’s road network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The traffic enforcement drive led to the impounding of 156 public transport vehicles and the execution of 951 warrants of arrest, showing the comprehensive approach being taken to address transport-related violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers made 57 arrests during traffic operations \u2013 50 suspects for drunk driving, three for reckless and negligent driving, and four more on various charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre dispatched assistance for 1 850 incidents during the past weekend alone, reflecting the high demand for emergency services during the festive period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medical incidents accounted for 40% of all emergency calls, while the centre logged 119 fires across the metropolitan area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials noted an increase in noise nuisance complaints, with 279 such calls received, while emergency responders attended 29 motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre also handled serious incidents including 132 assault cases, 59 domestic violence cases, and 19 cases of self-harm, highlighting the diverse challenges facing the city during the festive season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
