Western Cape police operations yielded significant results on Tuesday as officers arrested six suspects across multiple precincts while Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile conducted visits to Safer Festive Season crime prevention initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The coordinated operations saw arrests for unlicensed firearms, drug possession, and a suspected stolen vehicle, demonstrating the intensified police presence during the holiday period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Captain FC van Wyk, police spokesperson said the Public Order Police members patrolling the Muizenberg precinct heard gunshots coming from the Overcome Heights informal settlement area. Officers immediately responded, driving toward the source of the shots where they spotted four males carrying firearms fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following up on the incident, at a premises in Dawn Road, Seawinds members traced two of the suspects inside the house and found them to be in possession of a 9mm Taurus pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition and 70 mandrax tablets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe members arrested both suspects age 18 and 36 for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs,\u201d according to van Wyk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Operation Shanela II members conducting patrols in Philippi arrested a 23-year-old suspect for drug possession. Officers became suspicious when they noticed a male acting nervously upon seeing their approaching vehicle during stop-and-search operations in Lonedown Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A search revealed 20 sachets of tik in his possession, leading to his immediate arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a separate operation, Operation Shanela II members arrested a 33-year-old male for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle at Gushindoda informal settlement in Delft South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrest followed a complaint from a victim who had reported a hijacking case at Delft police station earlier in December. The complainant informed police that the suspects had contacted him demanding R5,000 for the vehicle’s return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acting swiftly on this information, officers proceeded to the given address where they found the suspect in possession of the red Nissan Magnite. The vehicle was transported to Stikland Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit for processing as evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Ravensmead, members conducting routine stop-and-search duties received intelligence about drug dealing in the area. “The members acted on the intelligence received and at the address they arrested a 35-year-old male found to be in possession of 20 sachets containing tik, seven mandrax tablets, 28 half mandrax tablets and 26 quarter mandrax tablets.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elsies River police detectives responding to a shooting complaint in the Leonsdale area spotted a suspicious male running in Debden Avenue. Officers followed the suspect to a nearby house, where residents confirmed he did not reside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a search of the premises, police recovered a 9mm pistol with 13 rounds near trees in the passage. Investigation revealed the firearm had been reported stolen in Sinoville on 9 September 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Van Wyk said all arrested suspects are expected to appear in their respective Magistrates’ Courts \u2013 Muizenberg, Athlone, Blue Downs, and Goodwood \u2013 once formally charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
