A pedestrian was the only casualty in a multi-car pile up in Lentegeur, after a BMW sped in the wrong direction, straight into on coming traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social media was awash with graphic images of the crash and one video showing the car that caused the crash was shared on multiple platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg said that Lentegeur police registered cases of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving cases after a BMW driving on the wrong side of the road collided with the pedestrian and four other vehicles, in Eisleben Road, Lentegeur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video on social media shows that the driver of the BMW was driving at tremendous speed when it crashed into the first vehicle, which caused a four car pile up. Twigg said, the pedestrian was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel and the drivers and passengers of all the other vehicles, including children, sustained injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe injured victims including the driver of the BMW were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and an arrest is yet to be made,\u201d Twigg said. Traffic services spokesperson, Kevin Jacobs, confirmed that 11 people were injured in the crash, involving \u201cfive light motor vehicles\u201d. Most of the injuries were minor, he said, but one person was seriously injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA 30-year-old male pedestrian was declared deceased on scene by EMS,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
