Residents in Monte Vista jumped in to remove huge branches that had fallen from a tree this week. The branches fell in Van der Spuy Street, Monte Vista blocking the roadway for motorists on Wednesday evening (5 November).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The local neighbourhood watch said in a social media post that it was a dangerous situation, that due to the darkness, it was difficult to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deon Oosthuizen, vice-chair of the Monte Vista\/Plattekloof Glen Neighbourhood Watch, said a local resident had reached out to him the evening saying she almost hit a tree that was in the middle of the road as she came around the corner from Visagie Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oosthuizen himself was unable to go out at the time, but asked if anyone could go have a look. Fellow neighbourhood watch member, Brent van Biljon went out, returned home and got hold of his chainsaw. He was able to cut the branches and move the stumps out of danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oosthuizen and another watch member, Phillip Jackson, also joined and with the help of members of the public, who also came out to help, managed to get the tree branches out of the way. According to Oosthuizen the area had experienced a few days of strong winds and says he thinks that the tree finally gave way due to Wednesday night’s strong winds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
