Two Spine Road High School learners are celebrating after their creative poster about energy efficiency earned their school a R15 000 stationery voucher.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mogammad Niyaaz Petersen and Faith Joubert took top honours at the Energy Efficiency Schools Programme (EESP) Poster Competition, beating nine other Cape Town high schools in the process.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prize-giving ceremony was held at the City’s Smart Living Education Centre in Green Point, where the winning duo accepted their award on behalf of their school.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are proud to announce Spine Road High School as the 2025 winner,” said Mayco member for energy, Xanthea Limberg. “This is an exciting way to kick off the City’s Future Energy Festival.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition challenged learners to design posters showcasing energy efficiency practices and sustainable energy solutions. Schools were judged on both creativity and their ability to communicate these important environmental messages.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Norman Henshilwood High School claimed second place, with learners Gina Esau and Grace Ndayisaba accepting the award. Third place went to Livingstone High School, represented by Mickyle Geduld and Ricado Bright.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limberg emphasised the importance of involving young people in energy education.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Educating our young people on energy efficiency and renewable energy is essential as they are key change-makers,” she said.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme, which comes at no cost to schools, is aligned with the school curriculum and forms part of a broader initiative between the City of Cape Town and the Department of Electricity and Energy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other participating schools included Langa High School, Iqhayiya Secondary School, Isilimela Comprehensive School, Wynberg High School, Zola Senior Secondary School, Oracle Academy High School, and Cedar High School for the Arts.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All participating schools received prizes including energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems or fans, along with stationery vouchers.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition kicks off the Cape Town Future Energy Festival, a city-wide movement aimed at informing residents about smarter energy choices.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
