{"id":280657,"date":"2025-10-07T17:26:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T15:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/?p=280657"},"modified":"2025-10-07T17:26:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T15:26:40","slug":"colour-for-cancer-walk-brings-hope-in-melkbosstrand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/colour-for-cancer-walk-brings-hope-in-melkbosstrand\/","title":{"rendered":"Colour for Cancer Walk brings hope in Melkbosstrand"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Colour for Cancer Walk 2025 took place on Sunday 5 October at Melkbosstrand, drawing families and participants in a vibrant, colourful show of support for DKMS Africa, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to fighting blood cancers and recruiting lifesaving stem cell donors.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants walked 4km along the scenic route, with colour powder zones adding bursts of colour to the event and creating a festive atmosphere. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walkers had the option to wear white or their chosen colour to represent a cause close to their hearts, while the Shoes with a Message campaign allowed participants to write messages of hope inside donated shoes, which were later distributed to those in need.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rainbow-fun\">Rainbow fun\n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The event featured live entertainment, food stalls, DKMS swab stations, and tributes to survivors, ensuring that every step was both fun and meaningful. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first 400 participants received goody bags, and all proceeds went directly to DKMS Africa to expand their donor registry and raise awareness of blood cancers. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-participation\">Participation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents with babies and toddlers were reminded to supervise their children throughout the walk and to take precautions at colour powder zones, using protective eyewear or covering strollers as needed. Organisers emphasised that participation was at individual discretion and encouraged families to enjoy the vibrant event safely.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photos of the Colour for Cancer Walk 2025 were taken
