Edgemead and Bothasig both experienced electricity power outages last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outages, according to Miquette Temlett, ward councillor, occurred in Edgemead on Monday 4 August and Bothasig on Wednesday 6 August. The outage in Bothasig comes two weeks after the area also experienced a water supply disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a summary Temlett explained last week that the outage in Edgemead was due to the urgent replacement of a mini-substation. “Communication was shared throughout the outage, and I commend the City’s technical team for working tirelessly, even into the early hours of a cold and wet evening, to restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible,” she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outage in Bothasig was unplanned and caused by a kiosk fire on Vryburger Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unfortunately, no feedback has been received from Eskom to date, despite several escalations, her summary of the event reads. She continues to say that she has raised the matter directly with Eskom and that she was actively following up to ensure urgent attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eskom spokesperson, Kyle Cookson, did however confirm to TygerBurger<\/em> on Wednesday that the outage in Bothasig was due to a cable fault. He said the power was restored the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Temlett applauded the repair teams for their hard work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Unexpected outages are understandably frustrating and disruptive, particularly during peak times. I remain in ongoing contact with the City’s electrical department and will continue to advocate for better communication, faster turnarounds and accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I urge residents to report all electricity faults via the City’s official C3 platform to ensure accurate tracking and response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “My sincere thanks to the dedicated repair teams who braved difficult weather
