All book lovers are invited to support the book sale that is held in conjunction with the indoor winter market at Andries Olivier Durbanville Quadriplegic Centre on Saturday 12 July. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All proceeds go towards the centre. The 12 vulnerable residents of Andries Olivier Durbanville Quadriplegic Centre are dependent on the funds raised to cover expenses of the home. The centre provides full-time accommodation, specialised care, meals and accessible transport to its adult quadriplegic and paraplegic residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ensure sustainability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The day-to-day running of the centre is managed by the residents themselves with each resident responsible for a different portfolio.  The residents are also responsible for raising sufficient funds to ensure the sustainability of the centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Receiving regular donations of groceries, the centre’s kitchen provides three nutritious meals to 18 people every day.  With two specially adapted Toyota Quantum vehicles, the transport needs of all the residents are taken care of – ensuring that they can play a meaningful role in and participate in the community.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre receives a small state subsidy, which covers only approximately 15% of the running costs, while its monthly expenditure amounts to about R115 000.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

R5 bargain books<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The market is held from 09:00 to 15:00 at the centre at 18 Hafele Street. The well-stocked bookshop has a luscious selection of well-priced books – from cookery books, interesting biographies and children’s books to South African interest books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The R5 bargain books have been shelved, categorised by genre and placed in alphabetical order to make it easy and convenient for book lovers. There is something for everyone. If you love plants, you will also appreciate some reasonably priced plants on sale to beautify your home and garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who prefer to browse more during the week, can pop in at the Browse & Buy Bookshop on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 15:00 to find their next exciting read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
