A house robbery in Yzerfontein on the West Coast on Sunday night (22 June) led to a high-speed chase, crash and eventual arrest of three men in Brackenfell, Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to police reports the robbery occurred at approximately 21:00. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three suspects broke into the residence and made off with various valuable items, including cellphones, a microwave, jewellery, laptops, television sets and a licensed .38 special revolver with ammunition. The suspects fled the scene in the homeowners\u2019 orange Toyota Urban Cruiser in the direction of the N7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flying Squad officers responded to the exit routes and spotted the vehicle on the N1, in the direction of Paarl. A chase ensued during which the suspects reportedly attempted to force police vehicles off the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The robbers turned off the N1 onto Okavango Road, where they crashed into a pole on the corner of Frans Conradie Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Brackenfell police station commander Col Jakobus Marthinus numerous shots were fired by the pursuing Flying Squad officers. No-one was injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents in the area reported hearing dozens of gunshots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The suspects jumped and ran from the car, but one of them was swiftly apprehended,” said Marthinus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police, assisted by Traffic Services, SJC Security, and Titanium Securitas started a grid search of the area and found the other two suspects hiding in a Wendy house in Morgenster. On searching them police found the stollen jewellery, five cellphones, wallets and knives. The stolen firearm, laptops and other household goods were found in the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All three suspects were arrested and are expected to appear in court shortly on multiple charges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
