After cancelling the 2021 event due to Covid-19, the organisers are extremely excited to host the 2022 LCE Weskus Marathon event on 19 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is also the 20th running of the event, which will among other things be celebrated with a stunning commemorative T-shirt! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hard work has gone into organising this event and to ensure that the present Covid-19 regulations will be adhered to and every person involved be kept safe. For instance, all participants will need to keep on their masks until the start of the races and a mask will be handed out to every finisher to put on when exiting the Coke station. Hand sanitiser bottles will be placed at strategic points at registration and at the finish venue. All refreshment station workers will hand out water, Coke, wearing surgical gloves and face masks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event will once again consist of a 42,2 km full marathon, a 21,1 km half marathon, a 10 km and a 5 km fun run\/walk. The 42,2 km full marathon will be a Comrades qualifier and also the very last marathon where runners can qualify to run the 56 km Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To qualify for the 56 km Two Oceans Marathon runners have to complete a 42,2 km marathon in under five hours and to qualify for the 90 km Comrades marathon runners have to complete a 42,2 km marathon in under 04h 50 min.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The full marathon is a one of a kind race in South Africa with 25 buses taking 1 500 athletes early in the morning from Langebaan Country Estate (LCE) all the way around the Langebaan Lagoon to the starting point at Tzaarsbank on the beach at the Atlantic Coast side. The participants run back to Langebaan through the Park and finish at LCE. A distinct characteristic of this race is that no cars are allowed during the race inside the West Coast National Park and runners can enjoy the beauty of the West Coast fynbos, the sea and the lagoon while they tackle the undulating route and close to the end the scary Black Mamba Hill before they finish on the green lawn of the golf driving range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 21,1 km route takes the runners via a beautiful part of Langebaan towards the West Coast National Park, take a 11 km circular route inside the Park and then back via the Black Mamba Hill on their way to LCE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 10 km and 5 km fun run routes are run mostly within the beautiful Langebaan Country Estate, with all four races finishing on the driving range. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The marathon, half marathon and 10 km are pre-entry races only with entries closing on 15 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants will not need to bring along or buy their timing chip, but a disposable timing chip will be placed on the race number at no extra cost and to ensure that everybody is timed and will get an official time in the results list and will also receive an SMS with his\/her official finish time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The total prize money for all three official races totals R63 700, which make this one of the prestigious running events on the SA calendar. For instance the marathon winners each receive R5 000 and the prize money for the half marathon winners is R3 000 each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
