In an integrated operation over the past few days led by the newly appointed West Coast District Police Commissioner Major-General Sizakele Dyantyi, local police and other law-enforcement agencies made multiple arrests for various crimes and contraventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The operation saw police, the Swartland K9 Unit, Immigration, neighbourhood watches, Malmesbury Veiligheid, provincial traffic and private security firms join forces in the fight against crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Successes of the operation include the arrest of three illegal immigrants under the immigration act, one arrest for fraud and five arrests on drug-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of 126 vehicles were stopped and searched, and fines were issued, some of them to the value of almost R40 000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, three arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor, one for dealing in liquor, one for possession of a dangerous weapon and another for possession of an illegal firearm. All suspects were expected to appear in their respective magistrates\u2019 courts on Monday (8 August). No serious crimes were reported in these operations, and similar operations are expected to continue for the West Coast to curb crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
