Tens of thousands of women unite in the SPAR Virtual Challenge<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saturday 3 September marked the beginning of Spring as well as the SPAR Virtual Challenge day. The day saw nearly 30 000, mostly women, walking, jogging and even jumping a 5 or 10 km challenge of their own throughout the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMonths of marketing on social media and elsewhere culminated in a fabulous day, where we saw women from all over, even in Namibia, taking on the challenge,\u201d said Elsabe van Zyl- Felix, advertising manager for SPAR Western Cape and Namibia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SPAR Women\u2019s Challenge was held virtually and on a national basis. The challenge encouraged participants to set their own fitness goals and to run, jog or walk the \u201crace\u201d at their own pace in the location of their choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEven though it was virtual it did not mean we compromised on the fun!\u201d Van Zyl-Felix said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And much fun was had, judging by the pics and videos that flowed into the livestream studio throughout the day. The theme for this year\u2019s SPAR Women\u2019s Virtual Challenge was #iRise. Entrants were inspired to push themselves to rise above their challenges and to aspire to their highest fitness and well-being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SPAR Women\u2019s Challenge has always had a charitable aspect. The retail chain takes pride in living out its values of family, passion and entrepreneurship and feels strongly that each girl has the right to an education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For every entry received SPAR donated a pack of sanitary pads to a girl in need, which will be distributed through its Petals Project, in partnership with various charities across the country. Many entrants added to this initiative by adding sanitary pad donations of their own, adding to the regional distribution in the Western Cape. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
