A resident of Robertson is claiming he was assaulted by a municipal official. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Edin Yokwana claims he was brutally attacked by a municipal official. He had approached the municipality several times regarding the housing issue of Yunguma Georgina Qose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her house had burnt down last year and she was struggling to get assistance from the Langeberg Municipality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality, however, said Qose had never paid it after moving into her house and therefore, because the house was not on her name it could not provide her with the assistance she required. Gazette<\/i> published the story on Tuesday 7 February (Still homeless after fire). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yokwana said he had gone to the municipality to pay the outstanding amount of R569,19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter Gazette<\/i> published the story I went to the municipality to pay the outstanding amount to get the house onto Mrs Qose\u2019s name,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUnfortunately, I didn\u2019t get round to doing so because an official at the municipality assaulted me.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yokwana claimed the reason for the assault was the Gazette<\/i> article. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI went to the housing department in good faith to pay the fee. What touches me the most is the fact that I was being assaulted on municipal property and I never hit him back. This is really such a disappointment for the fact that a public servant has hit a ratepayer. I lost the money of the woman and shirt was full of blood.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Robertson police confirmed Yokwana had reported the assault to them on Wednesday 15 February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA case was made by Edin Yokwana,\u201d said a local police spokesperson. \u201cHowever, according to the documents,the assaults did not take place on municipal grounds but rather in front of the municipal building.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the complainant he was hit with a glass obje \n Gazette<\/i> sent a query to the Langeberg Municipality on Thursday 16 February by asking whether or not the person named by Yokwana is employed by them and if they were aware of the altercation between the two men. <\/p>\n\n\n\n After numerous follow up e-mails asking when the query would be responded to, no feedback was received
