Di\u00e9 streek se kanola- en koringoes vorder fluks, maar stuur glo op \u2019n finansi\u00eble ramp af. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Swartland se graanprodusente skets \u2019n somber prentjie nadat vanjaar se laat seisoen, nat weerstoestande en ho\u00eb onkruiddruk bygedra het tot ondergemiddelde opbrengste, terwyl ho\u00eb insetkostes en swak koringpryse \u2019n bitter smaak laat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richard Hewett, voorsitter van Agri Malmesbury, is dit eens dat die re\u00ebn vir di\u00e9 seisoen bloot laat gekom het en produsente dus gekniehalter is wat \u2019n doeltreffende voorsaaispuit betref. Hy meen dit is een van die belangrikste stappe om so veel as moontlik onkruid dood te kry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOns kon dit nie vanjaar doen nie. Die re\u00ebn het te laat gekom en almal moes begin plant.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die laat re\u00ebn het volgens Hewett veroorsaak dat die koring en onkruid gelyk uitkom \u00e9n weens die re\u00ebn en koue weer wat vinnig gekom het, \u2019n swak wortelstelselontwikkeling by die kanola en die koring teweeggebring het, verduidelik hy verder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hewett meen wortels ontwikkel beter in klam, warm grond as koue, nat grond. \u201cOns chemiese onkruidbeheer was ook nie baie doeltreffend in die koue en nat omstandighede nie. Die onkruid is veronderstel om die chemie deur die wortels op te neem, maar weens die ho\u00eb re\u00ebnval kon dit nie doeltreffend plaasvind nie.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hewett s\u00ea regte tydsberekening het ook nie vanjaar in produsente se guns getel nie. \u201cDie tydsberekening op kunsmis- en chemiese beheer was problematies omdat dit vinnig nat en koud geword het. Ons kon nie op die regte tyd met ons implemente in die nat grond gekom het nie.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produsente was dus genoop om van spuitvliegtuie en hommeltuie gebruik te maak om kunsmis- en chemiese beheer toe te pas. Volgens hom staar produsente boonop probleme met die koring se prote\u00efeninhoud in die gesig, wat \u2019n swak gradering van hul koring tot gevolg het. Hy skryf dit onder meer toe aan swak kunsmisloging (verspreiding deur water) \u00e9n kunsmisopname nadat wortels dus nie reg ontwikkel het nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hewett beskryf die seisoen as die perfect storm <\/span>wanneer alle faktore in ag geneem word en s\u00ea die swak koringprys teenoor \u2019n toename in insetkostes het omstandighede vererger. \u201cOnkruiddruk is hoog, insetkostes is hoog en koringpryse is laag. S\u00f3 word produsente genoodsaak om hul begrotings aan te pas om nie te oorbestee nie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens inligting onder plaaslike produsente blyk dit dat 25% van die koring se graad sover as \u201cklas ander\u201d en ongeveer 50% daarvan as B3\u2019s gegradeer word, terwyl die oorblywende hoeveelheid na bewering onder B1\u2019s, B2\u2019s en supergraad val.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philip de Waal, \u2019n koringprodusent in die omgewing van Moorreesburg, het op sy beurt ges\u00ea \u201cdie Swartland bloei\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit was droog, toe skielik koud en nat.\u201d Plaaslike produsente in daardie omgewing verwag \u2019n gemiddelde opbrengs van 2,6 ton per hektaar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBoere is nie positief nie. Die prys van koring is heeltemal te laag. Alle produkte se pryse is net te laag en kostes te hoog,\u201d voeg hy by. Die meeste produsente in daardie omgewing se koring val onder \u2019n B3-gradering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOns het dit nie sien kom nie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andr\u00e9 Kirsten, wat in die omgewing van Darling asook Philadelphia boer, s\u00ea die oes lyk tot dusver ook ver ondergemiddeld vir daardie omgewings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDaar is baie strooi met baie are en geen pitte nie. Dit wat ons verwag het teenoor die werklikheid, is hemelsbreed,\u201d het hy bevestig. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirsten vermoed baie boere gaan finansieel slegter af wees vanjaar. \u201cEk kan nie sien hoe hulle hieruit gaan kom nie.\u201d Volgens hom het talle reeds bevestig dat hulle nie hul skuld sal kan betaal nie. Hy beskryf die kanola-oes vir daardie omgewings as \u2019n massiewe ramp, maar dat daar wel goeie kampe was, maar ook kampe wat niks gegee het nie. Hoewel sommige produsente tevrede is met hul koringoes vir die omgewing, bly vanjaar se seisoen \u2019n hartseer een vir Kirsten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDaar staan mooi koring, maar daar is nie pitte in die tenk nie. Daar gaan net niks aan nie. Dit is \u2019n hartseer saak.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Johan Hanekom, die voorsitter van Agri Moorreesburg, is die einde van die oes vir hulle nou in sig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moorreesburg se produsente in die omgewing van Gouda het plek-plek rypskade. Kampe lewer ook mooi strooi, maar nie die koringkorrels om daarvoor te wys nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSekere gedeeltes kan toegeskryf word aan ryp, terwyl ander dele wel re\u00ebn in September nodig gehad het, wat ons gedink het nie nodig was nie en waar die are net eenvoudig nie gevul het nie.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daar is egter uitskieterkampe, voeg hy by. Oor die algemeen gaan dit nie \u2019n gemiddelde oes wees nie. \u201cEk sal meer s\u00ea ondergemiddeld na gemiddeld.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy is dit eens dat die produsente se prote\u00efen-inhoud van hul koring \u2019n groot probleem in hul omgewing is. \u201cDit is meestal B3- of voergraad. Dan is dit nog die koringprys wat uiters pateties is.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy meen daar is finansi\u00eble probleme op die horison. \u201cAl is vanjaar nie \u2019n groot oes nie \u2013 dalk 3 ton per hektaar \u2013 is jy steeds swakker af as in 2017, wat onder die erge droogte gebuk gegaan het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit was lae insetkostes met \u2019n goeie koringprys, terwyl die koringprys vanjaar baie laag is. Jy kort \u2019n geweldige goeie oes om insette te dek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEk hoop daar kan veranderinge kom,\u201d voeg hy by. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Hanekom is die vervoerdifferensiaal ook \u2019n groot kwessie en maak produsente se bemarkingstrategie seer. \u201cAs die vervoerdifferensiaal heeltemal uitgehaal kan word of af kan kom na \u2019n baie bekostigbare aftrekking, sou die som anders gelyk het. Ons is dankbaar vir dit wat daar is, maar ons het baie meer nodig \u2013 veral in ons omgewing. Om grond te huur of te koop, is baie duur. Met die huidige oes en huidige pryse gaan jy uiteindelik niks betaal kry nie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albert Laubscher, die voorsitter van die Hermon- en Riebeekvallei-omgewing se boerevereniging, s\u00ea hulle is in dieselfde bootjie as die meeste graanprodusente. \u201cOns het redelike ondergemiddelde opbrengste; so ook die graad van koring.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy skryf dit onder meer toe aan die nat Julie en dro\u00eb September, wat die gewasse op twee kritieke tye waar dit potensiaal vasl\u00ea, geknyp het. \u201cDie groeityd wat plante tot hul beskikking gehad het, is weens weersomstandig\u00adhede beperk,\u201d voeg hy by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johan Pyper, \u2019n landboukundige vir SOILL, wat beklemtoon dat daar nog nie amptelike syfers tot hul beskikking is nie, noem dat vanjaar se kanola-oes tot nou \u2019n gemiddelde opbrengs van 1,2 tot 1,3 ton per hektaar kan oplewer en verwag word. Volgens hom is dit vanjaar \u2019n ver ondergemiddelde oes teenoor waaraan hulle gewoonlik gewoond is. Dit kan toegeskryf word aan laat opkoms vanjaar weens die laat re\u00ebn. \u201cToe die re\u00ebn aanbreek, het die plante vir sowat twee maande in die water gestaan, wat die seisoen korter gemaak het en waar die kanola dus groeityd verloor het. Blomfase en peulvulfase het uiterste temperature ervaar. Daar was ryp en daar was dae wat bo 30 \u00b0<\/span>C was en die peule afgespeen en dus tot die swak oes bygedra het.\u201d Volgens Pyper is daar geen gebied in die omgewing van die Swartland wat uitstaan nie. \u201cDit is maar \u2019n mengelmoeskardoes. Die opbrengs verskil van kamp tot kamp. Die wisselvalligheid tussen die kampe is verskriklik groot, wat op die ou einde 1,2 en 1,3 ton gemiddeld gaan gee, wat ons verwag.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pyper voeg by die meerderheid van die produsente is dankbaar vir dit wat hulle wel afgehaal het, terwyl daar gebiede in veral die laagliggende gedeeltes is waar versuiptoestande voorgekom het en kanola se wiele volgens hom \u201cheeltemal afgekom het\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
