Last week Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Reagen Allen along with Provincial Minister of Local Government engaged community members in Kalbaskraal and Chatsworth about various safety concerns in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the visit, on Thursday 23 February, community members in both areas mentioned they were deeply concerned about how crime was shifting from Cape Town to their areas and how the criminals were attempting to move into their areas to set up shop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They requested more visible patrols and other proactive measures to be taken to address safety and security in their areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Said Allen: \u201cThese frank and robust engagements with the community were fruitful, and I thank them for allowing us to have these conversations with them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve engaged the Swartland municipality which has committed more visible patrols. I will also request that police become more active in the various Swartland areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBoth the K-9 and Rural Safety units are making a significant impact in the area, and the recent success they achieved while working with police members is testament to that. As the Western Cape Government, we will continue to empower these units, as we want to ensure greater safety across the West Coast District and the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
