Leerders van Wesbank Sekond\u00ear, wat deel is van die jeugontwikkelingsprogram YCAP (Youth Citizens Action Programme), het die afgelope week gassprekers van die plaaslike departement van korrektiewe dienste as deel van hul misdaadvoorkomingsprojek verwelkom. Timothy Cyril Sauer en Juan-Pierre Lottering het leerders meer oor die ware gevolge van misdaad kom vertel.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoewel die groep leerders verlede jaar op armoede gefokus het, draai hul projek vanjaar om misdaad in hul eie omgewing.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die program, wat deur die trust Empowervate in samewerking met die departement van basiese onderwys moontlik gemaak is, is op mededinging gegrond en gee leerders oor die land heen ‘n geleentheid om binne hul gemeenskappe ‘n verskil te maak wat volhoubaar is.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glynise Onverwacht, ‘n onderwyseres en ko\u00f6rdineerder van die program by die skool, vertel dat die groep verlede jaar ‘n tweede plek in die provinsiale kompetisie behaal het.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanjaar mik hulle vir ‘n eerste plek sodat hulle vir die nasionale kompetisie in aanmerking sal kan kom.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Onverwacht hoop die leerders om deur middel van die projek bewustheid onder inwoners en veral skoolgaande leerders te skep om te keer dat hulle by misdaad en misdadige aktiwiteite betrokke raak.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons wil leerders bewus maak van die misdaad in ons gebied asook die gevolge wanneer hulle by daardie misdade en negatiewe gedrag betrokke raak en ons wil hulle wys dat daar ‘n ander uitweg is.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Onverwacht het verder ges\u00ea van die doelwitte van die projek is om leerders aan te moedig om hulself te bemagtig deur skool te voltooi of ‘n ambag te leer sodat hulle eendag kan werk vir geld en nie na misdaad as ‘n vorm van oorlewing sal draai nie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die leerders werk reeds nou saam met die plaaslike polisie en het ‘n reaksie-kommunikasie- groep gestig om inwoners van misdaadvoorvalle en misdadige aktiwiteite in die omgewing in kennis te stel.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die leerders hoop om bewustheid oor die projek te versprei en ander skole daarby te betrek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
