Resident loses belongings in fire

One of the victims, Aphelele Malgas, said he lost almost all his belongings in the shack fire.

“I was at work when the incident started, but my girlfriend managed to take out some of our bags with clothes and blankets. Everything else burned inside, including the fridge, stove, cupboards and television,” he said.

Malgas said this is not the first fire in the area and called for permanent solutions.

“All we need are proper houses or relocation to serviced sites,” he said.
