Hy het hom toe maar op sy sjarme en Mariaantjie se kinderlikheid begin toespits. Chrissie het die twee soos \u2019n valk dopgehou en gesorg dat sy altyd in die agtergrond wegkruip as hy besig is om Mariaantjie te bearbei.<\/p>\n<p>Hy wou haar een aand weer plaasdam toe neem, maar Chrissie het hulle gevolg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKom my bruid, vanaand wil ek jou se\u00ebn as my bruid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mariaantjie was van kleins af skrikkerig vir die dam. Tant Esther het so \u2019n groot vrees gehad dat haar kind sou verdrink dat sy haar vertel het daar is \u2019n groot gedierte in die dam wat haar sal insluk as sy te naby kom.<\/p>\n<p>Sy het dus teegestribbel toe Christiaan haar weer die dam wou inneem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEk gaan nie weer saam met jou in die dam klim nie. Die water is koud en vuil. Ek is bang vir die dam. Daar is \u2019n vreeslike ding wat onder die swart water bly. Hy gaan jou nog insluk!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christiaan het haar probeer oortuig dat sy meester haar sou beskerm teen enige onheil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrek uit jou nagrok dat ek my meester se helende olie oor jou lyf smeer. Laat ek die ronding van ons baba kan voel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mariaantjie het halsstarrig geweier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDis koud. Ek wil nie koud kry nie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maar Christiaan het haar geloof as wapen teen haar gebruik.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnthou, die meester het my as jou man uitgesoek. Jy wil mos nog in jou mooi rok trou? My meester s\u00ea die man is die hoof van die huis en as ek en jy trou, sal jy my as die hoof van die huis moet eer. Jy moet my gehoorsaam. Onthou, soos jou ma jou geleer het om jou pa te gehoorsaam? Soos jou ma jou pa as hoof van die huis gehoorsaam het?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Net daar het Christiaan \u2019n fout gemaak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Pappa s\u00ea my ma dra die broek in ons huis. Hy s\u00ea my mamma is \u2019n sterk vrou en hy is bly hy het so \u2019n sterk vrou.\u00a0 My pa hou van \u2019n vrou wat net so hard soos hy kan werk, het hy altyd ges\u00ea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christiaan het geweet hy sal Tant Esther se posisie as gesaghebbende in die huis moet diskrediteer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy bruid, ek het jou reeds ges\u00ea jou ma het \u2019n rebelse gees en my meester duld nie sulke vroue nie. Dis jou ma se gees wat veroorsaak dat jou pa so ly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIssie, Mamma s\u00ea dis die kanker. My mamma is nie boos nie. Sy maak vir my \u2019n Aspoestertjierok.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christiaan het geweet die rok is een van die wapens wat hy nog oor het. Maar hy het ook goed geweet die rok is ook Tant Esther se wapen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs jy die rok wil dra, moet jy my bruid wees. Dan moet jy my vrou wees en vir altyd aan my gehoorsaam wees. Trek jou nagrok uit. Ek wil die ronding van die baba salf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mariaantjie wou haar mooi rok bittergraag dra. Sy was selfs bereid om in die koue nag haar nagrok uit te trek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDis koud. Dis vreeslik koud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chrissie het haar met moeite weerhou toe sy moes toekyk hoe Christiaan se hande oor Mariaantjie se kaal lyf gly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jou maag. Hoekom is jou maag so plat? Die baba moet mos groei?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chrissie het besef dat Christiaan nie dom is nie. Mariaantjie was na die aborsie siekerig en het selfs gewig verloor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeloofde bruid? Pas jy ons baba op?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMamma het my dokter toe gevat en hy s\u00ea ek is nou gesond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWat het die dokter van die baba ges\u00ea?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mariaantjie se eerlikheid het Chrissie en Tant Esther se planne in groot gevaar gestel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEk kan nie onthou nie. Ek het mos in die hospitaal geslaap. En toe ek wakker word, was my maag baie seer. Maar die dokter het ges\u00ea ek sal gou beter voel. En toe bring hulle vir my jellie en <em>custard<\/em>.
