Die vyandigheid tussen Christiaan, Chrissie en Tant Esther het toegeneem. As hy nie in die siekekamer by Oom Thomas was nie, was hy later openlik snedig met hulle. Hy het goed geweet dat die twee vroue van hom ontslae gaan raak sodra die tyd reg is. Waar hy net na sy aankoms op die plaas \u2019n heilige, vreedsame beeld probeer voorhou het, het die skanse gou afgeval as hy nie voor Oom Thomas of Mariaantjie was nie.<\/p>\n

Tant Esther het ure in die kombuis agter haar naaimasjien deurgebring. Stekies wrewel is in haar gemoed vasgestik. Christiaan het soms die vermetelheid gehad om te gaan inloer en na die rok se vordering te verneem. Hy het geweet hoe langer die rok sloer, hoe skraler raak sy kans om met Mariaantjie te trou voor Oom Thomas sterf.\u00a0 Die groot muurhorlosie in die kombuis het die spanning in die plaashuis tik vir tik bevestig.<\/p>\n

\u2019n Paar keer het hy selfs daarop aangedring om die rokpassing by te woon. Mariaantjie het nog teegestribbel dat die bruidegom nie vooraf die rok mag sien nie, maar Christiaan het haar gou oortuig dat hy as sy meester se persoonlike profeet die eer het om te sien hoe sy beloofde bruid se rok vooraf lyk. Hy het selfs een keer in die kombuis kom staan met \u2019n botteltjie olie om die rok te se\u00ebn. Toe hy mik om Tant Esther se hande en haar naaimasjien te se\u00ebn, het sy vasgesteek.<\/p>\n

\u201cKyk, wie maak die rok? Ek of jy, Krisjan? Luister nou mooi vir my. Jy bly weg van my en my masjien. En jy bly weg as Mariaantjie aanpas. Ek gee nie \u2019n flenter om vir jou sogenaamde meester se opdragte nie. S\u00ea jy vir hom ek is die baas in hierdie kombuis. Nie hy of jy nie!\u201d<\/p>\n

Asof hy haar wou tart, was die meester se gesant die volgende oggend terug in die kombuis. Hy moes seker gedink het dat as hy op Tant Esther se senuwees werk, sy die rok vinniger sou klaarmaak.<\/p>\n

\u201cEk sien die rok vorder vandag? Amper klaar, sien ek?\u201d<\/p>\n

Tant Esther se naaimasjien het sy lied van protes onverpoosd voortgesing. Chrissie het na die tyd vertel dat die tante sommige van die nate tot tien keer oor en oor gestik het. Sy het haar nek styf gemaak as Christiaan so oor haar skouer kom loer. Sy het hom probeer ignoreer.<\/p>\n

\u201cJy weet, ek hoef nie regtig met jou te praat nie. Loop, voor ek jou self uit my kombuis gooi!\u201d<\/p>\n

Christiaan het tevergeefs probeer om sy mag as die meester se uitverkorene af te dwing.<\/p>\n

\u201cVrou, jou woorde is bitter vir my meester om aan te hoor. Jy gaan nog swaar gestraf word vir jou ongeloof. Jy is \u2019n adder aan sy boesem, \u2019n doring in sy heilige vlees.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPraat van \u2019n adder! Jy, jou skelm swernoot, jy is die adder in hierdie huis. Hou tog op om jou twak te verkondig. Dring dit nie tot jou deur dat ek en Chrissie nie \u2019n woord van jou nonsens glo nie? Maar wag, ek dink jy het nou al soveel gelieg dat jy jouself glo! Ek het nie nou tyd vir jou valse prekies nie, maar as ek tyd het, gaan ek jou vaspen met die Bybel tussen ons. Dan moet jy vir my daar wys waar staan dit dat God \u2019n lieplapper soos jy na my plaas sal stuur om my siel in die hel in te kom sleep. Wyk nou voor my, jou adder. Wyk!\u201d<\/p>\n

Dit was duidelik dat Christiaan sy Bybel ken, maar of die meester waarna hy verwys en God dieselfde is, het Tant Esther en Chrissie getwyfel.<\/p>\n

\u201cWeet jy wat noem my meester vroue soos jy? Julle het daardie Jesebel-gees in julle. \u2019n Gees van opstand teenoor mans. My meester sal jou nog tem!\u201d<\/p>\n

Dit het Tant Esther rooi laat sien.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoet nou nie vandag vir my kwaad maak nie, Krisjan. Jy weet goed ek hou my net in ter wille van my sterwende man. En as hy gesond was, sou Thomas jou gewaarsku het om nie met my skoor te soek nie. Jy beter maak dat jy wegkom hier uit my kombuis. S\u00ea vir jou meester my God is in beheer in hierdie huis, nie hy of jy nie. Loop nou!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sy het haar naaldwerksk\u00ear dreigend in sy rigting gewys.<\/p>\n

Christiaan het sy hande gelig soos \u2019n predikant wat die se\u00ebn uitspreek.<\/p>\n

\u201cDie meester wat my as profeet gestuur het. Hy is in beheer hier, nie jy nie, vrou met die Jesebel-gees.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJesebel se voet man. Gaan vertel jou meester dat Esther hom waarsku om uit my pad te bly. S\u00ea sommer vir hom ek dien die ware God.\u201d<\/p>\n

Christiaan wou nie bes gee nie.<\/p>\n

\u201cVrou, moenie met my en my meester speel nie!\u201d<\/p>\n

Chrissie het \u2019n hele paar keer gedink Tant Esther gaan \u2019n beroerte kry en nog voor oom Thomas sterf.<\/p>\n

\u201cKrisjan, luister nou mooi na my. As jy my in al die tyde op die plaas nog nie goed leer ken het nie, sal jy vinnig moet begin leer. Jy gaan nie hierdie speletjie wen nie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDaag jy my uit, vrou met die Jesebel-gees?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEk daag jou uit in die naam van my almagtige God!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWyk voor my jou bose gees wat hierdie vrou beset!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWyk jy voor my jou bose valse profeet!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJy gaan nog baie spyt wees dat jy my meester se plan probeer keer het.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chrissie het vertel hoe Tant Esther dit heeltemal verloor het en Christiaan met die besem bygedam het. Sy het geslaan om dood te slaan. Chrissie moes keer.<\/p>\n
