Hoe kon hy so gemaklik van die beskerming van sy sterstatus afstand doen en hom blootstel aan volslae vreemdes se opdringerigheid of kritiek?<\/p>\n<p>Vandag verstaan ek dit beter. Iewers maak elkeen van ons \u2018n lewenskeuse tussen keer en hanteer.<\/p>\n<p>Beleef ons die werklikheid as gevaarlik, gaan al ons skanse op. Binne ons grensdrade voel ons veilig, maar hulle hou ook mense en ervarings buite ons bereik. Die rede hoekom ons dit nie met die lewe wil waag nie, skryf Oriah Mountain Dreamer in<em> The invitation<\/em>, is ons begeerte na \u2018n voorspelbare uitkoms en die behoud van ons trots. Ons wil assebli\u00e9f tog net nie sleg lyk nie.<\/p>\n<p>Die alternatief is om oop te wees \u2013 vir moontlike morsige belewenisse, ja, maar ook vir mense en gebeure wat ons verras, laat tintel en ontroer. En as ons per ongeluk \u2018n giftong in ons ruimte toelaat, moet ons dit maar so goed moontlik hanteer en mediese hulp gaan soek.
