En elkeen van di\u00e9 eerstes verdien soveel meer as &#8216;n staande ovasie en &#8216;n plek in die geskiedenis. Dis eerstes wat mense oor dekades laat praat.<\/p>\n<p>Maar die eerstes wat ek (dalk jy ook?) onthou is di\u00e9 van die <strong>hart<\/strong>. Jou eerste dag op skool, jou eerste atletiekbyeenkoms of swemgala, jou eerste skooltoets, die eerste keer as jy agterkom hy loer vir jou, jou eerste soen, jou eerste aandrok, jou eerste dag op universiteit, die eerste graad of diploma, jou eerste werksonderhoud, jou eerste regte werk, jou eerste baas, die eerste keer as jy jou trourok pas, die eerste keer as jy hoor jy\u2019s swanger, jou eerste kind . . . en skielik weef jou lewe die eerste keer deur syne, hare en ons s\u2019n. Soms s\u00f3 dat jy nie meer weet wat eerste, laaste of volgende is nie. Sommige veg, ander verstrik en verstik.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00edt alles maal deur my kop as ek di\u00e9 week weer voor my eie <strong>keuses <\/strong>staan. &#8216;n Keuse van eerstes. Sal ek, of sal nie? Durf ek, of durf ek nie? Dan waag Facebook-baas Sheryl Sandberg in Davos, Switserland nog &#8216;n eerste en s\u00ea: \u201cMen still run the world, and I\u2019m not sure it\u2019s going that well . . . \u201c en vertel dan dat net 17 w\u00eareldlande deur vroue gelei word en dat minder as 5% van vroue topmaatskappye die w\u00eareld oor bestuur. Dit, s\u00ea sy, beteken dat ons dit nie regkry om al die talent in die w\u00eareld verteenwoordigend te gebruik nie.<\/p>\n<p>Eerstes kom nie vanself nie. Jy kies: ek kan, of ek kan nie. Ek moet, of ek moenie. Dis as jou strewe na eerstes laastes word wat jy ophou droom, dink en doen.
