A 34-year-old man was killed and a 15-year-old boy injured in a suspected gang-related shooting in Retreat on Friday night, 3 July, prompting a murder and attempted murder investigation by Steenberg police.
The shooting occurred at about 22:30 in Beethoven Street, where police responded to reports of gunfire and found both victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The adult victim was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, while the teenager was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Police have confirmed that the motive for the attack appears to be gang-related, although the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
No arrests had been made.
Police officers were following up on information received and conducting ongoing operations aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for the shooting.
Police appealed to members of the public who may have information about the incident to come forward.
Steenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Nicola Small confirmed the forum was aware of the shooting, but it could not comment further while the police investigation was underway.
