From hiking under the stars to building fires the children got a full taste of outdoor life. They also enjoyed canoeing, swimming, obstacle courses and team-building games. Many said the experience helped them bond with classmates they didn’t usually talk to and taught them to work together.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grade 4 to 6 learners from Cannons Creek Independent School recently returned from an unforgettable adventure at the SOS Camp in Villiersdorp. Over several days the young campers took part in a variety of outdoor activities that left them with new skills, stronger friendships and lasting memories.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sue Alston, head of the intermediate phase, praised the learners and staff for making the camp a success. “We are proud of all our (learners) for making this such a positive and bonding experience,” she said. “Thanks to the teachers for being the stand-in parents and dispensing meds, cuddles, encouragement and guidance at camp.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campers had a lot to say about their time away; Grade 4 learner Thaakir Parker said: “Honestly, the best part of camp was all the fun activities we got to do and how nicely we were treated.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His classmate Shaughan Gay added: “The best part of camp was probably the food.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amy Hoflinger, in Grade 5, enjoyed the obstacle courses and spending time with friends, while Rebekah Lambrechts, also in Grade 4, said: “We made bonfires and had bread rolls with some honey, which I really enjoyed.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grade 6 learner Manuel Marjawar shared how the camp brought classmates closer. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I wasn’t expecting it to be this amazing. I loved all the activities, the fire building and the team building. I got to bond with people I rarely ever talk to on my team and that was really nice for me.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Others found joy in simple moments. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaboentle Mathe, Grade 5, said: “My favourite part was the nighttime hike because it was a lot of fun but also very scary.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grade 6 learner Aran Bosch added: “We had so many obstacles to do, so many challenges and it was so nice having a group and having fun with new people.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The camp turned into a space where learning, laughter, and friendship took centre stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
