The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa (AWS SA) started a mass pet-sterilisation drive, focusing on pet owners living within a 10-km radius of their headquarters in Philippi from Tuesday 1 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The drive has been funded by the National Lotteries Commission of South Africa (NLC) and will target roughly 700 pets in the area. It will include free vaccinations, protecting the pets from life-threatening diseases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our teams will be going door-to-door starting with the Philippi farming community to ensure no-one from our defined beneficiary group is excluded from benefiting from this amazing NLC-funded campaign,” said AWS SA spokesperson Allan Perrins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We’ve waited almost two years for this funding and would like to thank the NLC for partnering with us and for their commitment to funding animal welfare initiatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The NLC relies on funds from the proceeds of the National Lottery. The Lotteries Act guides the way in which NLC funding may be allocated.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NLC wants the grants to make a difference to the lives of all South Africans, especially those more vulnerable and to improve the sustainability of the beneficiary organisations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Available funds are distributed to registered and qualifying non-profit organisations in the fields of charities, arts, culture and national heritage, and sport and recreation. By placing the emphasis on areas of greatest need and potential the NLC contributes to South Africa’s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
