The City of Cape Town will start the widening of a section of Wetton Road (M9) in Wynberg by the end of March, prompting warnings of delays for commuters and road users.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The construction zone will stretch from the intersection with Rosmead Avenue in the west to the M5 bridge in the east, with work taking place outside peak-hour periods, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 15:00. Saturdays and public holidays may also be used, if necessary.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To minimise disruptions, one lane in each direction will remain open to traffic as far as possible along the impacted section of Wetton Road. However, traffic passing through this section will need to slow down.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project aims to widen the road to allow for dedicated left and right turning lanes for MyCiTi buses, providing access to the new Wynberg MyCiTi bus facility to be constructed at a later stage. The existing access to the racecourse will be upgraded and formalised, while new pavements will be constructed along this section of Wetton Road.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayco member for urban mobility Rob Quintas acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the construction. “We are trying our best to limit the traffic disruptions and delays, but unfortunately, roadworks always come with a level of inconvenience,” he pointed out.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project is expected to be completed by the end of October, and the City urges patience and support from commuters.\r<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is part of the City’s efforts to implement a world-class public transport service, with multiple ongoing construction projects in Claremont, Wynberg, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
