A baby boy, born just after midnight, was the first of 175 newborns to come into the world in the Western Cape on New Year\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Western Cape Government Health Department, 175 babies were born of which 93 were boys and 82 girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One set of twins, two girls, were born at Tygerberg Hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister of Health, congratulated the families of the newborns. \u201cI wish to congratulate all parents on the safe arrival of their newborns and wish them many years of happiness and good health. May you cherish the time together with your little ones, as parent\u00adhood is one of the best journeys.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mbombo cautioned that a child\u2019s health is most vulnerable during the first 1 000 days of life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis period, from conception until a child\u2019s second birthday, offers a unique window of opportunity to shape healthier and more prosperous futures.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first baby was born at Mowbray Maternity Hospital at 00:03, weighing 4 390 g and 50 cm in length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second newborn, also a boy, was born at Karl Bremer Hospital at 00:04, weighing 3 620 g and 51 cm in length, and the third, a baby girl, was born at Helderberg Hospital at 00:36.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
