The City of Cape Town\u2019s Coastal Management Branch will repair coastal walkways and access points to the tune of R2,1 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The refurbishment will take place between Clovelly Corner and Fisherman\u2019s Beach in Simon\u2019s Town over the next two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eddie Andrews, Deputy mayor and Mayco member for spatial planning and environment, said the works will improve the lifespan and safety of these spaces while ensuring that they are also aesthetically pleasing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know how much Capetonians enjoy these spaces and that is why we are investing approximately R2,1 million in this project to ensure that they continue to do so, for many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrews added that there will be temporary closures in place while some walkways will remain open during the weekends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLike any other construction, the works will come with a level of inconvenience, however, we are doing all we can to keep this to a minimum. Some walkways will remain open during the weekends. Residents will still be able to use them. However, there will be temporary closures during the works, and signage will be in place to advise members of the public accordingly. I urge residents to please comply with the signage to avoid unnecessary disappointments. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during the construction period.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that residents will reap the benefits of the improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Repairs and refurbishment will include the Clovelly wooden access onto the beach, concrete repairs and refurbishments of Jager\u2019s Walk in Fish Hoek, Simon\u2019s Town Long Beach car park and the retaining wall as well as the access path to Windmill Beach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other repairs include Fisherman\u2019s Beach steps and railings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While some of the repair work started in mid-March, all the refurbishments should be completed by the end of May, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works will be implemented in the following areas: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work on Jager\u2019s Walk is currently under way. Sections of Jager\u2019s Walk will be closed at various stages throughout the project. Sections to be closed include Sunnycove station, between Tuesday 22 March and Wednesday 13 April. There will be no thoroughfare to Sunny Cove station and pedestrians will be re-routed via an underpass to Main Road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The section from Fish Hoek beach to the subway at 62 Main Road will be closed off from Thursday 21 April to Tuesday 3 May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jagger walkway will be open on long weekends including Easter weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Windmill Beach Access: This section will be closed from Tuesday 22 March until Thursday 14 April and the walkway will be closed during the week, from 08:00 on Mondays until 17:00 on Fridays. A track along the beach will be de-marketed as an alternative route. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access from the carpark to Windmill Beach only via diversion route along the Beach Track. The walkway will be open over weekends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long Beach car park: No closures are anticipated however there will be areas demarcated off during repair work, but access to the remaining parking will not be restricted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clovelly Beach Access: The timber walkway on Clovelly Beach will be closed during working hours, from 08:00 until 17:00 from Tuesday 12 April to Thursday 14 April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All walkways will be open for long weekends and weekends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fisherman\u2019s Beach Access: The walkway will be closed during working hours 08:00 until 17:00 between Sunday 17 April and Tuesday 19 April and the footway will be closed while a new hand rail is under construction. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
