Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has continued his vision to periodically take the Mayoral committee meetings closer to the people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday 5 April, Hill-Lewis and Mayco hosted their second such meeting outside of the Civic Centre house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting was held in the Lentegeur Subcouncil chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chambers play host to two subcouncils, 12 and 17 \u2013 formerly 23 chaired by Ward 116 councillor Solomon Philander and Ward 43 councillor Elton Jansen respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hill-Lewis thanked the chairpersons, both present, for housing them on the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is a pleasure to be here in Lentegeur and this is part of our programme to take our Mayco around the city,\u201d said Hill-Lewis at the opening of the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis will happen more regularly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the meeting was specifically for matters for Mayoral committee consideration, including financial considerations and projects, there was an opportunity for residents to make comments and pose questions to the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first meeting held outside the Civic Centre chambers was held in Cravenby Community Centre in Elsies River last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time, Hill-Lewis said that while all Mayco meetings in Cape Town are open to the public, they have traditionally been held in a boardroom at the Civic Centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs a symbol of our commitment to openness and innovation, I am keen to host these meetings around the city. I want residents to see this administration in action and see our commitment to be more open and inclusive, because these meetings discuss items that directly affect residents. To set the tone for the next five years, we commit to hosting these meetings regularly in communities around the City,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
